Amazon Goes Junglee in India!

Thursday Feb 2, 2012 saw the launch of is coming to India, branded as, a somewhat milder version of its global shopping portal.

Presently is offering 12 million products from more than 14,000 Indian and global brands. Just like its parent site, jungle too offers shoppers a chance to compare prices. However, actual purchases are made through a network of third-party retailers. Indians are now expected to become global shoppers by purchasing shoes from Reebok, Microsoft India, Fabindia and Hidesign.

Still certain brands like the Kindle will still be sold by directly, and suffer from steep international shipping and customs fees.

According to Amit Agarwal, vice president of “We are excited to give customers in India a single online starting point where they can shop a wide selection of products sold by local and global retailers, and make informed purchasing decisions,”.

India’s e-commerce market is now expected to grow from $10 billion to $200 billion by 2020, according to Technopak Advisors, a consulting company based in New Delhi.
