Unreasonable Demands and Poor Ticket Sales Causes Cancellation Of Mariah Carey Concert in Hong Kong

Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 27 October 2006No Comment

Entertainment is big business. Mariah Carey’s troupe does not know how to do business in Hong Kong…or perhaps she just didn’t want to make the trip after all.

Concerts Asia cancelled a Mariah Carey Concert in Hong Kong two days before the event was to be staged.

Only 4,000 tickets were sold and Carey, the organizers say, started making ‘last-minute wholly unreasoable demands.’

They did not elaborate.

"Substantial" costs went in to advertising the show…with a return of zip.

Gosh…does this mean I will get my money back on my ticket? Not to worry. Carey has never made a nickel off of me and considering how she has treated her Hong Kong fans….I reckon I don’t care if she ever makes another cent.

What do you think?

I love Mariah, so what if the tour got cancelled. It will not cause the end of the world. There are more important things to deal with , then concerts. People need to stop acting surprised when Mariah requests extravagant things for herself; she deserves it. If you had her talent and went through what she’s gone through, you would do it too. Stop hating on people for the sake of it. Envy is a terrible sin.

I don’t care what happened between the promoter and her manager or whatever. I bought the tickets and flew all the way to see her. She should just drag her a$$ to stage and perform. I’m very upset yet heart broken because of what happened in Hongkong. I’ve been a fan for over ten years. And I always thought Mariah Carey was the best, I don’t know about the truth or whose fault it was, but this thing just made me think Mariah was not the person I thought she was. Or was she? It is just hard to love her as before because she had totally break my heart. I could never be like a loyal fan as before unless I get a personal explanation from her. This is very wrong!!!!

This promoter has been sued by other artistes for non payment of contractually agreed fees. Mariah has every right to stand up and insist that the promoter stick to the contract. A lot of promoters are untrustworthy and the industry has no secrets. Once word gets out that she performs ‘for free’ many other agents will try to do the same. I sure as hell wouldn’t turn up for work without being paid and I have no problem with artistes who expect to be paid an agreed fee.
