NASA Chief Visiting China

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 2 October 2006No Comment

Three countries have sent humans into space:

1. Russia

2. United States

3. China

Now NASA is wondering if there isn’t something they (NASA) and China can do together.

NASA’s chief is visiting China – Beijing, Shanghai and a desert launch site in Gansu to ‘explore’ (isn’t that what NASA does best?) possible avenues of cooperation.

One big drawback is that China’s space program is run by China’s military and NASA is/should be reluctant to transfer technology that could compromise national security.

These are baby steps says the director of Space Policy Institute at George Washington University, but they are steps nonetheless at opening a dialogue with China that may influence other areas.

I am a NASA/space fan. I am excited to see what doors will/might open up should NASA and China begin to cooperate.

What do you think the future holds if they do?
