Colin Farrell and Gong Li at Miami Vice Premier in Beijing
I wonder if I will have to eat my words.
I have thought quite out loud that if Hollywood put a Chinese star in one of their flicks, the Chinese would come to see it…guaranteeing at least that much income for the producers.
Hollywood chose Gong Li, one of China’s favorites to star opposite Colin Farrell in the Hollywood version of "Miami Vice."
Yesterday, the movie premiered in Beijing at the Beijing New Century Cinema. Tomorrow, the movie will be released across China.
At first, it didn’t seem popular Gong Li would show up to promote the film. But, seeing as the film didn’t do as well as was hoped in North America, she did her duty.
Hopefully, there will be enough viewers in China for the film so that Universal studios and owner, General Electric, can break even.
However, things aren’t looking good.
