Chinese Producers Hope for Film Rating System
Chollywood news – Two Hong Kong producers are saying that mainland China needs to establish a film rating system ASAP.
If China does, moviemakers will be able to produce more good films, have more opportunities and explore new themes….and, of course, make more money.
Last year, the Chinese mainland took in about 1 billion yuan ($125 million). Pirates of the Caribbeans and a slew of other films made that much in a weekend.
Chinese sensors want Chinese films to be seen by everyone…or for everyone to know that they can see everything.
However, in this day and age, serving a niche and causing a special group to think it’s for them and them alone is a successful market strategy.
It may be a long time coming before China allows the production of R films and such, I think.
Is that a bad thing? It may definitely not be good for business.
