China Makes Airbus’ Day
China kicked off French President Jacques Chirac state visit with an order for 150 mid-size Airbus A320 planes.
Airbus CEO confirmed that China had ordered the planes and that the planes would be assembled in China btw 2009-2012.
The cost was not given but Jet Blue paid $2.5 billion for 48 Airbus planes more than 5 years ago. Let’s see – $2.5 billion time 3 plus five year plus 3-6 more years = a lot of money.
Airbus has to being flying pretty high right now with this deal in their pocket.
China will become a nation of flyers as the average Chinese becomes more and more affluent. These 165 passenger planes will be good for hauling some 25,000 at a time.
Okay…more math 1.300,000,000 divided by 25,000 = 52,000 flights. That’s how many times these planes would have to take off (and land, hopefully) to give every Chinese person at least one joy ride.
Airbus will be happy to take more orders.
What do you think?
