Need/Want a Haircut? Human Hair Worth $90-$110/lb in Myanmar

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 15 May 2007No Comment

When women in Myanmar take to the streets to shop, stroll or otherwise they have to be careful…there are pickpockets, thieves and 'hair snippers.'

Kind of like the south Asian version of lions and tigers and bears, I reckon.

Long-haired women in crowded arears have been victimized by sneaky hair snippers.

On the bus, while walking down the street, or even shopping at a roadside store.

And we wonder why they didn't notice that someone was cutting all their waist to knee-length hair off?burmese.woman.jpg

The women wear it in pony tails making it quite easy for a surreptitious barber type to get the goods and get away.

Some dudes, however, try and be up front asking for Goldie to sell her locks.

The going price – One viss will bring in 400,000-500,000 kyats.  (3.5lbs for $320-400.)

I am pretty sure my once long haired now buzz cut son's hair weighed a pound or so when he cut it off. He could have made some money off that.

How much would you take for all of your hair?
