Monkey Goes Fishing in Indonesia

There's a proverb- "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, feed him for life."

I wonder what monkeys have to say about this proverb?

In Bangkok, the long-tailed macaque monkey knows how to fish. He can also grab fruit from a tree or a banana from a tourist.

In India, monkeys are considered thieves and pests.

In Indonesia, the silver-haired macaque monkey (retired and members of AARP maybe) know how to fish.

What's the big deal? I mean you just get a pole, some string, a hook and some bait, right?

But these little primates don't use all that stuff. They just reach in and grab the fish. Learned from a bear maybe?

The researchers describe the actions as "rare and isolated" behavior. Yeah, they'd say the same thing about me if they ever saw me with a fishing pole.

Baboons, orangutans, and chimpanzees have been known to fish as well.

I wonder…can they teach me how to do it?
