Taslima Nasreen article, Two killed in Shimoga, curfew ordered

There was violence over exiled Bangladesh writer Taslima Nasreen’s article in Kannada newspaper on Monday in Karnataka state. The article is in the way of offending Muslim’s feelings. Muslims did not accept this controversial article.

Violence has ben reported in other districts of Karnataka as well today.

Police opened fire to clear the crew of Muslims protesting towards this article. The violence took place in Shimoga district after the article appeared in the dairy. Two people were killed, including one in police firing. 15 people were injured and several shops and vehicles are burnt.

Shimoga is Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurapp’s home district. The town of Hassan was also unrest with the violence.

Curfew has been announced until Wednesday.

Taslima Nasreen is a citizen of Bangladesh. In 1994 she wrote a book which attracted death threats. She left India in 2008 after protests by Muslims and went to lice in Sweden.
