Salman Rushdie’s video link not permitted at Jaipur Lit Festival

After enough of controversy created over the appearance as well as the video link of UK author Salman Rushdie at the Jaipur Literary Festival, the protestors in the city did not allow the virtual presence either. The Jaipur police who earlier allowed the video link, had later denied the poermission citing law and order issues.

After the news spread that the video link of the author was allowed at the festival, the Muslim protestors gathered outside the venue of the festival against the virtual presence of the author. The police then opined that the ownes of the venue Diggi Palace feared that the heritage palace might be destroyed by the protestors.

Due to the situation, the police was forced not to permit Rushdie’s video link at the festival. The author of the controversial book, ‘The Satanic Verses’ was earlier supposed to attend the event in India but was then warned by the Indian police that paid assassins could be on their way to target him.

Rushdie then cancelled his visit and prepared for his virtual presence. But unfortunately even the video link address wasn’t allowed at the event.
