Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi festival  is a Hindu and sikh festival, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon of the month of Shraavana which is on thursday , 5th of August , 2009.

Astrologers suggested  Auspicious Time for Tying Rakhi on 5th aug is :
11.30 AM (IST) to 12.30 PM (IST) or after 5:15 PM (IST)

The Legends of Rakhi

The festival is celebrated  by  tying of a rakhi, or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The  brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her  while the  sister returns offers to her brother.

Rakhi festival is celebrated as Rakhi Purnima in North India . The word “Purnima” means a full moon night .it is also called as rakshabhandan.
