Rabindranath Tagore remembered on his 70th death anniversary
The Bengali literature veteran Rabindranath Tagore is today remembered on his 70th death anniversary. Children from several schools in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal had observed the day by participating in processions despite heavy rains.
The school children in the processions had sung the songs of Tagore. One of the processions of school children were led by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Chief minister had led the procession from Harish Park to near her Kalighat residence.
Banerjee had also joined the children while they had sung ‘Aguner Parashmani’. The VIPs who had taken part in the other processions included, Commerce and Industry minister Partha Chatterjee, Finance Minister Amit Mitra, Education minister, Bratya Basu, Sudip Bandopadhyay, MP and Trinamool Congress legislator Debashree Roy.
Many other programs were also organized in the city to pay tribute to Tagore. One of the programs had included ‘Kavi Pronam’ which means a tribute to the poet. Another program was also organized at the Nimtala crematorium by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
