President Pratibha Patil’s husband indicted in land grabbing case
In a major embarrassment to the President of India, Pratibha Patil, her husband Devisingh Shekhawat has been found guilty of grabbing a farmer’s land.
Kishore Bansod a farmer from the Indian state of Maharashtra had filed a police complaint against Devisingh Shekhawat for allegedly grabbing around 2.25 acres of his farm land by changing the land documents.
The Indian court has now asked Shekhawat to return the land to the farmer.
“My client had lodged a complaint of land grabbing against Devisingh Shekhawat. The land comes under SC quota,” said Bansod’s lawyer Sunil Gujbhije.
But Shekhawat has denied the charges and has said that Kishore Bansod was lying.
“I have been wrongly framed,” said Shekhawat.
The President’s office has refused to say anything on the issue, saying that the President is not involved in the case.
But this is not the first time that Shekhawat has been involved in a land grabbing controversy.
