Pope Knocked Out During Christmas Eve Mass
Yesterday (December 24), a Christmas Eve Mass was held in St. Peter’s Basilica and was lead by Pope Benedict XVI. However, due to the unawareness of security officers a woman on a red jumper managed to jump off the barriers and attacked the pope by pushing him down.
The 82-year-old pope quickly got up and was unhurt, said a Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini. The commotion occurred as the pope’s procession was making its way toward the main altar and shocked gasps rang out through the public that packed the basilica. The procession came to a halt and security rushed to the trouble spot. He woman was arrested by Vatican’s police, due to her repetitive attacks to religious figures in Vatican. Benedettini said that the mentally unstable woman also knocked down Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, who was taken to hospital for a checkup.
