Pakistan agrees for talks, New Delhi to host Indo-Pak meet on Feb 25

After a break of over a year,India and Pakistan announced on Friday that foreign secretary-level talks would be held in New Delhi on February 25.

Pakistan foreign secretary Salman Bashi called his Indian counterpart Nirupama Rao, over the phone, to say he had accepted the offer and confirm the schedule for his visit.

Sources in India
describe the upcoming talks as an “Introductory meeting”, the meeting
would establish an agenda for future talks, and there will be
possibility of another such session ahead of a meeting between the two
countries.

The announcement in Delhi followed a meeting in Islamabad on Friday
decided to raise the kashmir issue, differences over sharing of river
waters and India’s alleged interference in Balochistan and Afghanistan
during upcoming foreign secretaly – level talks in New Delhi, Prime
Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani directed Bashir to hold “result-oriented
and meaningful” talks, a statement issued by Gilani’s office said.

Some analysts feel India and Pakistan were under American pressure which had led them engage for talks.
