Narendra Modi led BJP wins 24 out of 27 seats in Muslim dominated municipality
NDTV reported on Feb 12, 2013 that after being re-elected in December for his fourth consecutive term , Gujarat CM Narendra Modi lead BJP another reason to rejoice.
The party took the Lion’s share of 24 seats out of 27 seats by contesting 24 Muslim candidates in Salaya municipality that has 90 per cent Muslim population.
In December election, Modi was questioned on his secularism when he did not field a single Muslim candidate. The BJP had responded saying that the candidates were picked on the basis of their winning capability.
Last week the European Union confirmed that it has ended the boycott on Modi which had begun after the Gujarat riots of 2002. Mr Modi attributed his win as a result of being pro-people and delivering good governance. BJP spokesperson Jagdish Bhavsar commented on Tuesday’s results that they prove that it’s not about religion or caste but about good governance and the people have voted for good governance.
