Maharastra Civic Polls 2012 results: Mumbai, Pune – Shivsena leading Congress and NCP

The election results of India’s richest municipal body The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Pune and other cities will be declared on Friday, February 17, 2012.

When last reports came in, the results of 153 seats were declared. The Shivsena – BJP allicance was leading with 67 seats, while the Congress had won 47 seats, MNS 22 and others 19.

In Thane, NCP candidates Amit Sariya (Ward 13B) and Radhabhai Jadhav (Ward 14B) were leading when last reports came in.

BMC with a budget of over Rs 20,000 crore has 227 seats.

The elections were held on Thursday. The voting percentages in other nine cities on were as follows: Thane (52 %), Ulhasnagar (43 %), Nashik (58 %), Pune (53 %), Pimpri-Chinchwad (56 %), Solapur (58 %), Akola (57 %), Nagpur (55 %) and Amravati (58 %).

The BMC polls will test the political strength and charisma of not only Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, but also Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray and his son Uddhav Thackeray.
