The building sheltered 60 families or say 200 individuals and maximum of the residents were migranrt labourers originally belonging to West Bengal.

According to the sources, the building stood there since past 15 years and the fifth floor to it was also being constructed. Sources also said that about 30 people more are believed to be trapped under the building debris.

Though there has been no specific reason mentioned for the collapse but the city police articulate that the building might have weakened due to the heavy monsoon.

The locals expressed their disheartenment for the delay in service from the police and firefighters. They said, “They took more than 45 minutes to reach the site. And then there was confusion about how they were going to bring in the ambulances.”

But the servicemen claim that after the collapse the traffic blocked the roads and that is the reason why it took so long for them to reach the place.

The officials have filed charges against the owner of the building, Amrit Singh and the search for him is on.
