Delhi Auto Expo 2012, Toyota launches new Prius for Indian market

Like all the cars makers, even Japanese car maker Toyota has on January 7, 2012 launched the new version of its hybrid sedan Prius in the Indian market. The Prius has been priced between Rs. 27.39 lakhs and Rs. 29.41 lakhs.

Toyota exists in India in collaboration with the Kirloskar Group. The company had first introduced the world’s best selling hybrid car in the year 2010.

Shekar Vishwanathan, the Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motors told the reporters at the Expo that the introduction of the new Prius is their sincere effort to bring in advanced hybrid technology to India so as to develop such a market here.

Shekar added that the new Prius will be having a solar ventilation system in addition to the exiting battery technology. The deputy managing director also added that they hope to see more Prius customers so as to contribute to the growth of the Indian Hybrid market which will also be contributing to a greener tomorrow. Since the launch of the hybrid sedan in the year 2010 the company has sold 150 units in the Indian market. Viswanathan refused to share any of the sales target for the new Prius in the Indian market. Toyota had first introduced the vehicle in the year 1997.
