China’s New Zhang Ziyi? – Tang Yan

Chinese director, Feng Xiaogang, has a new film that he is casting no-stars for.

The lead actress is Tang Yan – a newcomer has appeared in only two other works.

When asked if the new girl could act, Feng replied that it didn’t matter. Here appearance and attributes were the precise fit he was looking for.

So…whether she can act or not doesn’t matter? What, will he just have her stand there?

Feng says he feels more pressure with this film, his follow up to "The Banquet" which starred Zhang Ziyi. Added pressure comes from working with a cast of rookies.

The film is about a soldier and his battle for recognition for comrades killed in the Chinese civil war between the Communist Party and KMT.

One thing is for sure…if the new girl can do a credible job and speak English, Hollywood will have another Chinese star to court and make money off of.
