Chery – Made In China
The San Jose Mercury News reported that cars MADE IN CHINA are coming to the Bay area by sometime next year.
A Chicago area dealer paid $2 million to have the rights to do business and set up shop here in my neighborhood. Who’d he pay the $2 million to? I don’ think I am understanding something.
China’s Chery car is being threatened by GM because the name of the car is similar to Chevy….uh…I guess Chavy, Chuvy, Chivy, Chovy, Chedy, Chefy, Chegy…..and anything else that starts with C and ends with Y. If GM can’t beat them outright, then they will sue them and make them spend a couple of million on changing the name plates before they get their butt’s kicked.
Someone tell me, why can’t American car makers just concentrate on making better cars than everyone else?
It’s still nearly two years away but cheap, as in made in China cheap, doesn’t seem to be part of its marketing strategy. A Chery sedan is expected to sell for around $20K. Two years from now, that’s liable to be $25K…who knows?
Cars made in China are coming. We’d might as well get ready for it.

why sacrafice quality for affordabilty in chinse daily times 77 percent of the chinse cars fail to meet safety standards. this includes the parking brake,transmission,the emergency brake,brake pads (do not buy their brand)compressor problems cheap rubber hoses steering rod defects engine failure belt defects and safety problems. stick with japanise cars hope they would not switch

i agree i’m over here short term and there are many cars over here essecially the taxis (which are all low priced made in china cars) with over 150 000 km’s on them and running fine still. i’ve noticed tho that in general while they don’t all keep them regularly maintained, the do drive treat them better on the road as you will hardly see someone redlining one.

made in China doesn’t mean poor quality, it depends on what you’re talking about. I’ve been driving a Chinese car for 1 year it’s as good as it’s Japenese counterpart.
Cheaper because everything is cheap in China including salaries. And believe me these low paid workers are not less qualified than American workers.

In other words there is no ‘stigma’ for being “made in China” in your mind.
Sometimes made in china implies cheap and poor quality.
But the same was thought about Japan when they first started making cars many years ago.

I think buying one is a matter of taste, saftey ratings, cost and how practicle a car like that is to drive. I don’t see too many people jumping on the band wagon until they have a bit more information how on the car does in the long run.

China is a great copier machine, but do we need another imported car? How about those who loose thier jobs because of these imported cars? I agree that American car needs improvement, some one has to keep reminding them, before they loose their business.
