Sydney Covered by Most Severe Dust Storm in 70 years

Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 23 September 2009No Comment

Denver is expecting its worst snow fall ever for this early in the season.

Atlanta is seriously flooded and nobody is playing around.

Now, down under in Sydney, Australia the Aussies are experiencing their worst dust storms in more than 70 years.

What’s up with all the chaos? Somebody get me a global warming monster club.

APTOPIX Australia Dust Storm

International flights are being diverted.

Airports are being closed.

Dust clouds from east Australia’s dry interior already dried up from the worst drought on record are picking up tons of topsoil and throwing it high into the sky and tossing it on top of cities hundreds of miles away.

Sydney also has experienced hail storms and mini-heatwaves, not to mention wildfires in the past few days.

The dust storms are the worst since 1940s. They are reaching as far as New Zealand from southern Australia – 1,400 miles (2,220 km) away.

I am reminded of an old kangaroo joke -

Question: Why do kangaroo moms not like when it rains or in this case dust storms?

Answer – because the kids have to play inside.

If you have asthma, heart or lung disease, stay inside and keep your medicine and inhalers handy.
