Typhoon Megi Hits South East China – Lakhs of homes evacuated

Typhoon Megi has hit the southeastern coast of China, today afternoon that forced evacuation of the people of the region. The typhoon reportedly made landfall at Zhangzhou, Fujian at around 12:55pm and storms of 140 kph. This was reported by the Central Meteorological Observatory.

The typhoon as of now has killed 39 people in the Philippines and Taiwan. The Observatory also reported that as the Megi headed towards North West, its strength started to decrease and it travelled with 10 to 15 kph.

According to the reports, 270,000 locals had to move away from their homes on Saturday morning and looking at the intensity of the typhoon, the bureau says, more people might have to relocate as the day proceeds.

Megi initiated in Philippines and was at its peak with 225kph, By the times it reached Taiwan its strength had decreased a lot with 130 kph.
