Tokyo Seeks 2016 Summer Olympic Games

Tokyo beat out Fukuoka to become Japan's candidate to host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Other cities in the running are America's Los Angeles and Chicago – announcement due out tomorrow – and Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and New Delhi.

Just 8 years after the games are held in Asia – 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games – is unlikely. But, Tokyo and Japan have not hosted the Summer Games since 1964.

Los Angeles had the games in 1984.

Most of the venues built in 1964 for the Tokyo Games are still in use.

I reckon politicians need an excuse to rebuild the facilities and the Games are as good as any.

Japan has not been the same since the Tokyo Games….the Bullet Train was inaugurated in time for those games and the country showed it had recovered from the war.

Additionally…foreign, um, delicacies made their way into the country…hamburgers and pizza.

Well, not every change from the Olympics can be good, can they?
