Rent-a-Girlfriend: 1000 dollars

Some super nerd at China's Beijing University is offering to pay 1000 Chinese dollars (abt $130) if "an honest, kind and similar-aged girl with a diploma" will pose as his girlfriend for 10 days during the upcoming Lunar New Year Holidays, China's biggest holiday season.

A trip to his hometown is included so that he can 'show her off' to his parents.

Mom and dad have accused the physics student of studying too hard…but, apparently not of being resourceful…a strong trait of many Chinese.

Of course, the young lady will have to give up spending the holidays with her family.

Meanwhile, some business majors are wondering who else might be hard up for a date and are likely plotting a strategy for a new start up: Rent-a-girlfriend.

1,000 yuan for 10 days works out to about 4 Chinese dollars an hour = 50 cents. And if mom and dad say they don't mind if their little stud and his partner sleep together…well, 1000 yuan becomes awful cheap.

The price will have to be raised if the entreprenuers want some sort of cut out of the deal, no?

What lengths have you gone to to try and get a date?

Got a story to share?

Not one of my finer moments – when I was in college, I once made 27 phone calls to different girls in one day before I finally found a date…and a real sorry date it was.

    That’s called persistence.

Isn’t renting a date the world’s oldest profession?
