Navratri is one the major festivals celebrated by the Indian peoples. ‘Nav’ means ‘nine’ and ‘ratri’ means ‘night’ combinely means ‘nine nights’. There are many folktales involved to the notion of Navratri like all Indian festivals. All of them are related to Goddess Shakti (Hindu Mother Goddess) and her various forms. It is one of the most celebrated festivals of Hindu calendar; it holds special importance for Gujratis and Bengalis. Dandiya and Garba Rass are the major folk dances of the festival in Gujarat, while farmer propagate seeds and thank the Goddess for her sanctifications and pray for better harvest.

Maa Durga and her other transcendent forms are worshipped in these nine nights. People pray for the wellbeing of themselves and their familes.
