Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, was presented a giant garland by her fans from Karnataka on March 15 in Lucknow. The garland is made with currency notes of Rs. 5 crore. There were 50,000 currency notes of Rs. 1,000. This was identified by a local photographer when he zoomed in. It could be the most expensive political felicitation.
This giant garland was brought by Mayawati’s party functionaries from Bangalore for her mega rally to mark the celebrations of the Bahujan Samaj Party’s silver jubilee and 76th birth anniversary of the party founder.
Media persons faced difficulty to capture the images of the function while Mayawati was being garlanded this giant currency garland.
The Income Tax Department stepped in and asked its intelligence wing to gather information in this regard including the funding of the entire event. The department estimated the garland to be between Rs 10 to Rs 20 crore.
VN Shrama, coordinator of BSP Karnataka unit, says, ‘the giant garland in the news could have made out of contributions from BSP workers across the country’.
