The additional DIG (prisons), Bipin Bihari, has said that there is a lot of man power in the prisons, after which he had approached the regional centre in Nagpur and had asked if they could design some courses for the prisoners.

Such a thing has never been done, but the IGNOU had managed to come up with some courses. The regional director of IGNOU, P Sivaswaroop had said that he had visited the prisoners and had tried to understand their skills and abilities.

Courses will now be offered in welding, carpentry, garment designing and garment designing. Sivaswaroop had said that the courses have been designed keeping in mind the infrastructure available in the prisons. The regional director further added that the courses will concentrate on more practical work than theory work.
