Cutting in Line – 8 facts of life

This is a Japansas experience I had when in Shanghai….and confirmed by a poll taken online by CCTV and China's most popular instant messaging service QQ.

Some facts of life about cutting in line in China =

1. 52% of Chinese admit to cutting in line… I think most of those tried to cut in front of me.

2. 25.6% of them admitted to doing so because they were in a hurry.

3. 56.6% of those who have cut in line say they do so because everyone else is doing it.

4. 83.5% of Chinese think that people who cut in line are uncivilized….yet, half will do it.

5. 96.3% of Chinese say they are voluntarily wait in line and in order…well, yeah!

6. 7% of Chinese will 'excuse' a line jumper because they may have something 'urgent to do.'

7. 62.5% think that if a line were formed from the get go, people would get it in.

8. 25.6% think staff members need to be more active in controlling lines in China.

It's true…so many Chinese have no respect for those standing in line. And even it is a small percentage, it still works out to a lot of people.

After two people jumped in front of me and my female friend at the time, she sighed 'that's just the way it is in China.' Not for me, I am big enough to be two Chinese, Yao Ming, Bao Xi Shun and Sun Ming Ming being exceptions.

Nobody else cut in front of me in China ever again after that. That is one Japansas experience I could not get used to.
