World Bank and 1 World Manga
What do the World Bank and the Japanese manga industry have in common?
It seems the World Bank is tapping in the appeal of the Japanese manga industry by tying up with 1 World Manga to teach youth about AIDS and poverty.
The novels are created by VIZ Media in San Francisco.
The magazines entertain and teach, the company says, believing they’ll attract kids who read manga and think of themselves as global citizens.
My older son, was a ‘tweener for a Japanese anime company – Production IG of Kill Bill and Ghost in the Shell fame. He made a whopping 2-300 yen ($2-3)/page. I wonder what the manga drawers make.
Who knows, when it comes to poverty, they may be writing about themselves.
