Shanghai Communist Party Chief and Politburo Member Detained

Submitted by Bill Belew on Tuesday, 3 October 2006No Comment

It looks like President Hu is cleaning house. And to some extent he may be.

Authorities have detained ranking officials in Beijing, Tianjin, Fujian, Hunan and now Shanghai.

Hu supporters say that the current prez is cleaning house, that most of those detained thus far were part of the old guard and associated with Jiang Zemin.

However, the other side of the camp sees the arrests and those arrests that are sure to follow as an attempt on Hu’s part to consolidate his own power.

The cleaning looks good but Hu and his supporters are not completely clean, say some Communist party members.

Next year there will be restructuring of the party and historically political jockeying takes place in the preceding months.

Hu can be seen on his pony cracking a whip now.

What do you think?
