Paypal in Space – SpaceX

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 13 April 2006No Comment

From the sale of Paypal, Elon Musk made around $200 million. And he was still 32 years old. I think it might take me 32 years just to count to 200 million.

So, what do you do with all that money?

Well, how about building a space program and then watching it go up in smoke as Musk’s SpaceX did?

Perhaps Musk needs to consider hiring some of Russia’s rocket scientists now nerds that I wrote about.

After all, it seems Musk has it eyes on doing business in Russia and Ukraine’s bargain-basement small payload market.

By hiring Russian rocket scientists he could prepare himself for that eventuality now.

Hey Musk! Are you listening?

Well I think that Muck should do what Muck wants to do with the money. If I created something that brought in so much money for me I would cash out my share and move to some remote island were no one could find me.If he wants to hire russian nerds to create a space program go for it, it is his money.

Musk could sure use the help. But I don’t know if Russia and it’s satalite nations are the place to go. The USSR leaves behind a lot of technology but finding any body who knows how it works could be a challenge. The USSRs’ space program is still in shambles and Russia has better things to spend money on. $200 million can get you a rocket but not the owners manual. He is better off investing with Burt Rutan and his existing space program.

this may be a silly question but why space? why blow 200 million on an space exploration?? it seems that big weathly ppl are starting to spend money on space, or maybe im hearing wrong?? but 200 million is a whole lot! i wish i had that money. what would you spend it on if you had that much??

Now, i may not be a rocket scientist but i do know this…I wouldn’t foolishly throw away 200 million dollars on a sure-to-bust space program. But to be quite honest, i’m not sure how i would spend 200 million dollars. I think that 200 million is too much many for just any one person, epecially this musk guy. 200 million dollars could’ve fed a whole lot of starving people is all i’m saying.

    Thanks for your comments, Dan.
Don’t you think you might get tired of doing nothing after a while?

I have retired early and then figured out I’d rather be working after all.

    What do you think?

    Joey,
Some ppl think there is a trendous market for space travel. I think Branson of Virgin Air said he already has reservations for several thousand people once Virgin is ready to go. Ppl who have money like to spend it.

A space program could sap money out of a lot of wealthy people. No?

Russia does not need to invest anything. Their scientist would be hired by Musk…in other words they could make money off of Musk.

The Russians have beaten the Americans in space on a lot of front.

A Russian friend of mine told me “We can go to space, but we can’t feed our families!”

    Jose,
    Those are good thoughts.
Unfortunately, ppl with money don’t ask those of us who don’t have it, right?

But, Musk claims that he is exploring possibilities in space so that we earthlings will/might have an alternative in the future should we continue to mess up things here.

In that way, he is spending money for the betterment of mankind, in his mind.

So far, he has spent about 100million and seen no return.

Why spend 200 million dollars in space? With all that money you can put into use for health and medicine. In finding a cure for cancer, aids and brain damage. This will help people and you will good about it. By doing this you will be helping people all over the world.
