Introducing Chinese Cars – BYD

Submitted by Bill Belew on Wednesday, 19 April 2006No Comment

BYD AUTO is the next Chinese car maker.

BYD auto is a subsidiary of BYD Co. Ltd, which sits in the top 100 in the Chinese electronic industry, the top 100 of Chinese High-tech Industries and among the top 100 privately listed companies.

BYD entered the automotive industry by purchasing the Xi’an Tsungchan Auto plant in 2003.

In other words, they are just getting started.

This company was particularly difficult to find info on and their web site doesn’t appear to have been updated since 2004, which might as well have been the last millenium.

Still, it is obvious the Chinese think there is money to be made in the auto industry.\

At a post in AManWalksIntoAnOffice we might see what the, um, experts might say of Geely’s chances.

How about you, what do you think is the possibility of seeing Chinese cars puttering around the before long?

i think it is very possible we will see this atuo maker soon. with more hybrid cars showing up, a background in the elctronic industry might even be an advantage. scion, for example, has come out of nowhere and very quickly become a successful company.

    Good point about the Scion.

One thing is sure, competition is good for the consumer, right?

It does look like they copy BMW a lot. Thanks for the link. It is a good resource for me and others who want to know about Chinese cars.

I can imagine ppl buying Chinese cars here in the US just for the novelty sake…even as in investment…

    Americans would do that.

    Would you agree?

Boycot that junk, these cars are not worth a cent. Take a look at their logo, an imitation of the BMW logo. Really filthy monkeybusiness !!!!

Scion isn’t a new company – it’s basically a new Brand within Toyota. All with established methods, procedures, quality practices, marketing channels, etc. BYD is all new. So will be harder for them.
