Goldilocks lost in IKEA’s Beijing Super Store

Yesterday I wrote about IKEA is doing business in China with its new super store in Beijing. I found out a little bit more today.

It’s restaurant seats 700 people – though I suspect that the food is till no good. Unless, that is, they are making something Chinese.

The lobby is three stories high. It has 77 model living rooms, kitchens and bedrooms. Whoa! Even Goldilocks could find a bed in that mess.

What is driving IKEA is the same thing that is driving www.homedepot.com. China has a rising homeownership.

The Chinese are beginning to want their own home AND the government is supporting this. The governement reckons that if people are spending money on their own home…well, they are spending money. And that is good for the economy.

China has over 100 cities with more than 1million people. Japan has only 120 some million people. Imagine ALL of Japan living in just 100 cities.

The home-improvement market ranges from $15-40 billion and is forecasted to keep growing 10-20 percent per year.

That’s an awful lot of sofas, and faucets, and pillows, and tables, and light fixtures, and plungers and….and….and….

There are a lot of other people who stand to make a killing in China, too.

Are you one of them?
