All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) to take on Multi-nationals
Glowing in its recent victories over Wal-Mart Stores – 19 trade unions established in three weeks, the ACFTU has its sights on other multinationals in China.
The ACFTU has a membership of around 150 million in nearly 1200 branches.
This year the ACFTU aims to install 120,000 more branches across China and add more than 13 million members.
Behind that aim, the ACFTU wants to push foreign-funded or multinational companies to unionize.
At this point, only 26% of China’s 150,000 plus overseas-funded companies deal with established unions. Membership is just around 4.3 million.
With a victory of the big guy – Wal-Mart in their pocket, it seems to me that the ACFTU is bound to make some serious in-roads with all the other multinationals as well.
Now we won’t only have union knotheads to deal with in the states, we will have to deal with them in China as well.
But then if the big companies were fair…
But, then, what is fair?
What do you think?
