$42 Million for a NASA Space Shuttle – A Christmas Present for the Man/Woman Who Has Everything

Submitted by Bill Belew on Friday, 19 December 2008No Comment

Got a man or woman who has everything? Got a lot of money? Want to give something to someone that nobody else has?

NASA plans to give away (for a price) its space shuttles in 2010.

The space shuttle Discovery will go to the Smithsonian museum, and the others will go to “educational institutions, science museums, and other appropriate organizations.”

“These are national assets, national treasures and something that NASA feels the public would want to see displayed publicly for years to come,” said a NASA spokesman.

Applications will be accepted until March 17, 2009.

Who actually gets the shuttles will be decided by:

1. who has the ability to actually display the space shuttle,

2. who has the funds for the upkeep.

Estimated costs -$42 million dollars in decommissioning and delivery charges

But, can you find a Christmas tree big enough to put one of these puppies under?

I wonder…would they sell one to somebody outside of the United States?
