Submitted by Bill Belew on Saturday, 30 December 2006No Comment

Asia reacts to Saddam Hussein's execution.

Australia does not support the death penalty but called the execution of Saddam Hussein "heroic."

Japan, another major US ally in the region, said Saddam's execution had been carried out within the rule of law.

"This is a decision made by Iraq's new government on the rule of law. We respect it," said Japan's foreign ministry.hussein-hanging.jpg

China…avoided direct comment on the execution.

Pakistan described the event as a "sad event," and hoped the security situation would not be more exacerbated.

Malaysia warned the hanging could trigger more violence.

India condemned the execution and express worry that the conflict would become worse.

South Korea has yet to comment on the execution for fear their 2,300 troops, the third largest contingent behind the U.S. and Britain, might become targets.

Thailand said the execution was in accordance with Iraqi law.

Cambodia did not support the execution.

Vietnam called the execution "an internal affair of the Iraqi people."

Singapore said the execution was carried out in accordance with Iraqi law and judicial process."

I am not an Asian country…but I wonder why it took so long and so much money was wasted on the whole process.

What do you think?
