Russian Young People are Shaking Off the old Ways

"You can never be optimistic about anything in our country because it will likely end up badly,"
is the sentiment of the old timers in Russia.
Youngsters who do NOT remember the Soviet times do not share this sentiment…nor do they have
any ideological aversion to capitalism that their parents and grand parents no doubt have.
Young girls wea spike-heeled boots and tread carefully to keep the mud off.
They also manage bank branches that specialize in giving small loans to entrepreneurs.
Start ups were few and far between just a few years ago…bank portfolios have tripled and
clients doubled in some places.
"A lot of people want to open shops," is the new sentiment.
Sounds like pessimism is out and optimism is in.

It’s about time that Russia finally got some of it’s own business going. And finally, it’s not just voldka. It’s a good thing that people, especially the younger demographic, is taking advantage of their resources and doing something productive to say the least.
I totalty agree. My best friend from the age of ten is russian and is the most empowering person I know. She speaks three languages, goes to University of Washington and is interning at the Mexican Concilate. I dont know much about the old ways of Russia, sure I learned about it all in history class, but I think whats so great about our generation of young people is that we define ourselves by learning from our history, being awair of not to repeate the same mistakes. We live in the present moment and do not holding old grudges. After all, our generation is awair of how much opportunity actualy exists in this world and none of us want to miss the boat.
i think discuraging people from thinking freely and being successful in life is cruel. everyone should be free to make the most of their lives and not be held back by people remembering the old days.
That is one of the great benefits that young people bring to society…something fresh and something new.
The key is to not repeat past mistakes and improve life.
