Alexander Volonstov – Brookings Institution

Dr. Alexander Volonstov of the Brookings Institution is Head of the Department for Korean and Mongolian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He also serves as Vice Secretary General for ISKS. Additionally, he is a professor a the Military Sciences Academy of the Russia Federation.

He has served as the Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Pyongyang.

Dr. Volonstov is analyzing the current state of the relationship between Russia and North Korea. He is investigating North Korea’s military buildup, diplomatic activities, domestic society, economic reforms (or lack thereof) and anti-American rhetoric

He is working on developing alternative policy recommendations – such as avoiding military pressure in order to deal with the North Korean Nuclear power crisis.
