South Korean Scientist Attempts to Clone Extinct Mammoth

Submitted by Bill Belew on Sunday, 30 July 2006No Comment

A stem-cell scientist in South Korea was disgraced for falsifying stem-cell research.

Now, he is being accused of embezzling research funds, too.

Hwang Woo-suk is on trial for misappropriating funds, embezzlement and illegally purchasing human eggs for stem-cell research.

But…he has a reasonable defense.

Hwang says the money he took was used toward failed attempts to clone a wooly mammoth. You know, one of them hairy elephants.

And to think, Hwang didn’t even a movie script to go by when he was doing this.

I wonder, did he get the idea from watching one of the Jurassic Park films.

What do you think?

There is a Japanese scientist who is doing just that. I can’t remenber his name or where, but was on one of NHK programe a year a go or so. I think he was yet to successfully obtain the good enough genetic code. What he is up to now, I have no idea.
