Signs of North Korea and South Korea Reunification?

Submitted by Bill Belew on Thursday, 17 May 2007No Comment

For the first time in more than 50 years, North and South Korean trains crossed the military demarcation line.

North Korea had to push their train across…kind of the way the Indians did, maybe.

Actually, the South Koreans sent 100 and North Koreans sent 50 passengers, respectively using two rail links that were cut during the Korean War of 1950-53.

"On the west coast, a train left South Korea's Munsan station to run on a 27.3-kilometer line to North Korea's Kaesong station, while the other train left North Korea's Mt. Kumgang station to run on a 25.5-km line to South Korea's Jejin station on the east coast."

The South Korean Unification Minister (not the Moonie-type) said the test run is hoped to be "a turning point that would lead to full flowering of joint prosperity (of South and North Korea)."

A North Korean counterpart echoed, "at the ceremony that all efforts should be made among all Koreans for national reconciliation, unity and unification."

I bet old West Germany has some serious advice to offer to the South Koreans if they are seriously thinking about reunification.

Do you think South Korea has what it takes to bring North Korea into the fold?
