North Korea Interested in Doi Moi Economic Reform
Our Dear Leader, Kim Jong-il is interested in a Vietnam-style economic reform and openness policy, dubbed "Doi Moi."
That's good, but nobody is interested in Kim.
Vietnam adopted its reform policy in 1986 to
1. create a market economy,
2. liberalize trade and finance,
3. decentralize state economic management
4. rely on the private sector to energize economic growth
The North is thinking to set up special economic zones on China's border and China is lukewarm to the idea.
Emulating Vietnam may be North Korea's best bet….or reunification with the South.
