Korean Moms No Longer Prefer Sons

Korean moms used to want sons…had to have sons…found it absolutely necessary to have sons…to:

1. have personal satisfaction – 67%

2. ensure family happiness – 51%

3. keep the family lineage – 19%.

In 1991, 40.5% of mothers said they must have a son.

In 2003, just 14.1% needed a son.

Last year, the survey is taken every three years, the percentage of gotta haves is down to 10.1%, the lowest ever.

Women in the countryside, however, are more likely to still want a boy compared to the urbanite moms.korean.son.jpg

A graph of the decline can be found here.
