Half of South Koreans Pirate Movies

Submitted by admin on Thursday, 20 December 2007No Comment

The Korean Film Council learned that about half of Internet users in South Korea download a full-length movie at least once a week.

Some 47.3% of 2,358 on-line users aged 15-49 said they had downloaded feature films through file share sites for free or as little as 11 cents per film.

The average pirate downloaded 54.5 movies each year.

Two big reasons -

1. it's cheap – 33%pirate.movies.jpg

2. it's convenient – 21%

If the piracy were more strictly regulated, 34% said they would head off to the movie theater, 16% said they would subscribe to a legal download service and 7.5% said they would plow on.

One in four (28%) said they didn't download because it was too complicated, and one on five (18.1%) said they were afraid of viruses.

Just one in eight+ said they were concerned about copyrights. (12%)

Have you ever downloaded a movie or tv program illegally?
