Honda Decides on the US Midwest

Submitted by Bill Belew on Monday, 22 May 2006No Comment

Honda Motors has decided to build a new factory in the heartland of the US.

There is already one such factory right up the street from where I grew up, Cincinnati, OH.

They plan to produce a small hybrid gasoline-electric car as part of their $1.5 billion global expansion program.

Currently, Honda sells about 1.6 million cars in the US each year. They hope to up that number to more than 2 million within the next 5 years.

Demands for Honda cars are growing while GM and Ford continue to downsize and restructure.

Honda says it will NOT build a factory for its Civic or Accord hybrids but instead will offer up a new model that is smaller and cheaper. (I like this part.)

Honda also plans to manufacture a four cylinder diesel car by 2009, which is says will be one of the cleanest on the planet.

The US market for new cars is still profitable.

Japanese car makers plan to get the bulk of those profits.

How about you? Will you buy a Japanese car?

I would buy another honda. I already own one and it gets great gas milage. Also the quality of hondas are built very well. I think if gas prices stay high honda will have a chance of reaching 2 million in sales in the next two years..

Honda is sure planning on providing the auto market with more cars. But from what I hear, the Insight would soon be out of company’s list. It seems that they would be stopping production for this one.
