At least 170,000 endangered female Olive Ridley turtles have laid their eggs in the protected Gahirmatha sanctuary, a famed nesting site in coastal Orissa, during the past 11 days.

TATAs not going to jeopardies their project after progressing. They must have been aware of the whole nesting thing they started with their project. They have taken measures thats why nesting continued last year. So what is really the issue with Green peace. One wouldn’t know because they refuse to negotiate either.

I have heard a lot about Tata. They are very respected in india and they know thier responsibility as a indian company. Indians should protest against it, I am sure they will come up with good solution.

India is a very diverse country with its own set of inherent problems and lop-sided growth. Greenpeace must understand this and stop holding the growth of Orrisa hostage and must return to the negotiation tables with wasting any more time and creating a pathetic hue and cry.

Tell me about it, I know loads of people who had migrated to other cities in sheer depression just to get two meals a day. But thankfully most of the families are coming back because of the increased opportunities in their state.

If DPCL had started this project a few years ago, a lot of families would not have migrated out of Orissa to other states in hope of a better life.

Question:
But you agree that development of mega projects in India requires acceptance by the people at large. Let me ask you this one: What’s important – do I save the Olive Ridley turtles or do I build the Dhamra port?
Answer:
In some sense, we need to do both. We need to think seriously of environment and we need to develop our business as well. We are a complex society. Our aspirations are different. The aspiration of an urban child is to perhaps eat very good pizzas or go to an air-conditioned theatre, or it could be to buy the next computer. The aspiration of the rural child is to get the next meal, the next set of clothes, to get to school. Both are as valid. I think this is where our politicians have to straddle both worlds. We can’t play zero sum games. It is very important that we have leaders who understand that India is a conglomerate, a consortium of multiple interests, and all of them are very valid.

Hey, you are talking about the same thing again and again and again … that too after all the explanations have been made and all doubts been clarified.

Ratan Tata has taken measures to ensure that nesting does not get affected due to the on going project. The nesting happened last year so what does Greenpeace want now.
