New Chinese Movie “Warlords”
Released nationwide on December 13th, "Warlords" has already raked in Y160 million. Another Y200 million is expected this month.
In its first two weeks of release, the Chinese war epic hit an average daily gross of 16 million Yuan.
A record 1,027 copies of “Warlords” (650 film copies and 337 digital copies) were ordered for its mainland screening.
Nearly half of the film’s budget (US$40 million) was spent on the cast:
Chinese action star Jet Li,
Hong Kong super star Andy Lau,
Heart-throb actor Takeshi Kaneshiro
Beijing based actress Xu Jinglei.
“Warlords”, based on a Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) story, follows the struggle of three blood brothers for a woman during a time of war and political upheaval.
Shaanxi Province native Zhang directed other such award-winning films as "Raise the Red Lantern" (1991), "Hero" (2002), and last year's blockbuster "Curse of the Golden Flower".
