World’s Tallest Firescraper in Shanghai – Shanghai World Financial Center

China's future tallest building, the Shanghai World Financial Center, is still under construction.

It also may be starting to burn down…threatening to become a firescraper before it becomes a skyscraper.

Thick smoke appeared near the top and lasted for about 75 minutes. (BBQ for

lunch?) at around 4:30.firescraper.shanghai.jpg

When/if finished the building witll be 492 meters tall and 101-storeys.

1,000 workers made quick use of the six working elevators when the fire broke out.firescraper.shanghai.1.jpg

The initial investigation determined that a welder's spark on the 53rd floor ignited construction waste below. Fire broke out on floor 20 and smoke rose to the 80th floor.

The timing for the buildings completion (begun in Novembe, 2005) is not expected to be affected.

Where would you like to be if/when a skyscraper catches on fire?
