United States Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell Calls on Shanghai
It seems the United States Coast Guard cutter Boutwell has been shanghaied.
Shanghaied is a term of old when men were grabbed up and forced to work as sailors on ships bound for China.
And, if the Boutwell wasn't forced to make the trip (it wasn't) then it is an awful long way from home…protecting the shores of the
United States.
The Boutwell is on a port call in Shanghai till August 20th as part of an exchange with Chinese counterparts of the North Pacific Coast Guard Forum (NPCGF).
The NPCGF was set up in 1999 and is a coast guard forum including members from China, the US, Japan, Russia, Canada and South Korea.
The group combats:
1. drug trafficking
2. marine security
3. fisheries enforcement
4. illegal immigration
5. real pirates…not the software kind.
Asian countries working together with North America to fight real bad guys…sounds pretty good to me.
How about you?
