Transformers Moves into 2nd among China’s all-time Foreign Films
Hollywood's "Transformers" took in $37.3 million at Chinese box offices to become the No. 2 all-time grossing foreign film in China.
"Titanic" is number one with 448 million overall in China.
Number three is "The Da Vinci Code" with $13.3 million.
Reports that China's government banned media coverage of "Transformers" and it's box office earnings when it approached 200 million were denied.
Beijing permits only about 20 foreign movies a year unless the films are co-productions with local companies.
Regulators have tried to maximize revenue for Chinese studios by banning foregin films during holidays and school vacations.
It is tough for Chinese studios to compete with the big budgets and resources of Hollywood filmmakers.
Instead, Chinese producers have to rely on good story lines and excellent acting to win audiences.
What a novel idea!
